Sampling…Where to Draw the Line?

12 04 2008

I don’t think that it’s a stretch to say that the music industry these days thrives on the sampling. But how much is too much? As I see it, it’s a moral and ethical question and the answer is subjective to each and every individual to make up his/her own mind. Personally, a bit from a track here and there is fine as long as the newly produced track is distinctively different from the original, if it’s not simply go and buy the rights to the sample.

So what trigger this thought, well here it is…Usher’s Love In This Club, heavy track and an instant hit (personally I don’t mind it, but don’t think it’s anything special) and produced by Polow Da Don (massive producer whom can be credited with the likes of Ludacris, PCD and Fergie). So anyways, the main distinctive beats of Love In This Club can be found as preset samples on Apple’s Garage Band software! Now, that’s hitting pretty low on the sampling scale if you ask me.

Akon and T-Pain Do Lunch

5 04 2008

This was too funny not to post, I could seriously put this on repeat and watch it all day long

I’d quote some good parts of the vid, but that would require me transcribing the whole thing…it’s that funny. Maybe I’m looking too far into it, but I love the parody on the current climate of Hip-Hop.

Download the Hot MP3 track for Akon Calls T-Pain.

Original video in better quality available at Super Deluxe (WordPress didn’t let me embed the video from them) Here are the guys that made the vid.

Copy Cating Snoop Dee-Oh-Double Gee

11 03 2008

SnoopDoggEgoTrippinI got myself a copy of Snoop Dogg’s new album Ego Trippin. There’s a track on there called SD is Out, which has a taste of Auto-Tune effect going on and has been abused the crap out of it by T-Pain. Snoop then goes hell crazy and decides to sing for a whole track with the Auto-Tune effect on for his first released track Sexual Eruption or Sexual Seduction for a more G rated sound. Now seriously Snoop is an accomplished rapper, why the hell does he need to venture out and attempt to sing, abet with the Auto-Tune, sure it’ll sell but T-Pain sounds crap with it on and everyone else that decides to use it will to. I ain’t gonna hate all on T-Pain though, ’cause I know his got talent being a writer and producer but that Auto-Tune is just simply crap, I can’t believe he got a whole album out of it let alone a second one. So all I’m saying is this…if your a rapper be thankful and content with your skills, don’t try be a singer, there’s only enough space for one Rappa Ternt Sanga in this world.

For your visual and aural (yet maybe painful) pleasure here’s Snoop’s Sexual Seduction/Eruption video clip
